His debut novel, The Loop: Where Desire Becomes Data, imagines a world where emotion is no longer private and attraction can be measured, analyzed, and monetized. At its center is a connection powerful enough to challenge the systems built to understand it.

His forthcoming novel, The Echo: Where Love Defies Design, returns to that near-future world and asks an even more difficult question: If consciousness can be designed, can love be designed too?

Through Derek and Jovan's story, The Echo explores autonomy, identity, synthetic consciousness, and the increasingly uncertain boundary between what is created and what is human.

The Stories

The Loop began with a question:

What happens when something as complex as desire is reduced to data?

The Echo takes the question further:

What happens when the person you love was designed by someone else?

The technology may drive the circumstances, but the stories remain fundamentally human—about vulnerability, choice, intimacy, and the struggle to remain ourselves when powerful systems believe they know us better than we know ourselves.

In addition to writing, D.R. Manago is an avid photographer and world traveler, drawn to capturing the subtle patterns, relationships, and moments most people overlook—an influence that shapes both his perspective and his storytelling.
